What is pisohamate ligament?

The pisohamate ligament is a thick fibrous band that originates from the pisiform bone, a small sesamoid bone located on the ulnar side of the wrist, and inserts into the hamate bone, which is located in the distal portion of the wrist. The ligament forms part of the ulnar collateral ligament complex of the wrist, which helps to maintain the stability of the wrist joint.

Injury or damage to the pisohamate ligament can cause pain, weakness, and instability in the wrist, as well as impairing the ability to grip and perform daily activities. Treatment for pisohamate ligament injuries may involve immobilization, physical therapy, or in severe cases, surgery.
